Bring back the backgrounds!

I have two quick cards to share on this Friday afternoon!  

For this card...

I used masking tape and distress inks to create a plaid background!  I learned this great technique from Laura Bassen who was an instructor today on C&S Cards 3 class and we were focusing on letting the background be the focus!

This was so easy to create using the post it note masking tape! I used a few different colors of TH distress inks and the sentiment is from MFT!

Now, for this next card, I wasn't even going to post it because I wasn't sure if I liked it (still not sure).  This is for the same class but we were doing optical illusion techniques (again another technique from Laura Bassen)! 

I used the Hero Arts Tiny Flag BG stamp and two circle stamps from a Mama Elephant set with some Memento dew drop inks. The sentiment is from MFT. I also didn't get crisp lines in the center while using a mask so I just used a ruler and black journaling pen and made a frame. IDK how I feel about this card so I figured I would post it!

Optical illusion cards

Hi there!

Here are two cards that I made this afternoon for the on line card class C&S 3!    We are focusing on optical illusion techniques.

For this card, I die cut the circle and then used a stencil and some distress inks ( spiced marmalade & worn lipstick).  I then inked up lightly the circle and stamped the happy birthday with a MFT Celebrate stamp set, I had to mask the stamp as I wanted it stacked instead of long.  I lightly went over the whole card with the Spiced Marmalade ink for a soft background instead of leaving it stark white.  I placed the circle back in so it is a single layer card and then adhered the whole panel onto a white card base. I added a few sequins just for some bling.

I like all of the circle"ness" going on and it really draws your eye all over the card!

For this next card..I couldn't help but bring out my Tiny Flags BG stamp and stamped once with Rose bud ink and then stamped again off to the side in Dandelion ink (both Memonto dye ink).  I think it looks just like an optical illusion and I see tiny and large triangles.  I die cut a ticket shape out and stamped the sentiment.

I think these are fun cards and they were super fast and easy...and one layer cards!  I am really enjoying the class and it's not too late to sign up and learn a new technique or two or three (or more lol).

Hi there! Another card post today! We had a scare at the kids schools today...turned out to be nothing, but I was terrified because there was nothing I could do. So, my husband and I went to my daughters lunch and she was so happy to see us. During their lock in all the kids were scared and crying, I felt terrible for them, so we made them laugh during their lunch period and they were all fine...including me! LOL! Anyway, I had trouble posting two pictures on my blog earlier, so I am back to post the second card! For this card, I wanted to use the new Amy Tangerine stitching alphabet kit that I got. Now, I know it is not staight or centered, but it was my first attempt. I had a hard time seeing through the pink plastic to line up and space out the letters, so I need practice, but I think the look is great and it will add so much to cards and layouts. I used the layered die cut technique to keep the card a single layer card.

I used some Lawn Fawn Hello Sunshine papers and added a dashed white line and some recollections enamel dots to finish it off!  I think it turned out pretty cute and I have so many more ideas for this die cutting technique, I just love it!

two Fabulous Technique Cards

Good morning!   I am loving the on line card class (C&S One Layer Cards 3) and have learned some "new to me" fabulous techniques! At this point I don't know which is my favorite, I love them both! So for this card (like yesterday's) it uses the faux metal embellishment technique, which is just layers of embosing powder and then stamped while it is still hot! Love the look! I stamped the celebrate and then when in with colored circles and then made my faux metal embellishments. I love the simple clean look of the card!

So, I had trouble with my blogger today and adding the links to the products used, so I will have to post them seperately.  Let's see what happens! LOL!!

You're Simply The Best.....

Hi there!  Late night post for me, was so busy today and we had such nice weather that I took the kids out to play and ride bikes....we ditched homework until after dinner! Lol!
Anyway, here is another card that I made after learning a new technique in class (CAS Cards 3)....it is a faux metal embellishment on a single layer card.  LOVE IT!  It looks great in real life, not sure the pic captures it, but oh so fun and simple.

I started with an A2 base and rounded the corners. I stamped the sentiment using Aver Elle's Handwritten notes stamp set.  I stamped the hearts around the sentiment...then for the fun!  The faux metal was created by using a mask.....I don't have masking paper so I created mine using my Cricut, George & Basic shapes cartridge and some vinyl.  The vinyl is very tacky and I didn't want it to rip the paper so I stuck it to my shirt a few times and that did the trick. I used the circle mask, versamark ink and silver embossing powder and made 4 layers...just repeating the embossing...then took the tiny heart stamp coated in versamark and when the last layer of embossing was still hot I stamped the heart into the "puddle" of  "metal" and there I have a faux metal embellishment!  I love this new technique!  Now, I didn't have any problems using the 110lb cardstock, with it seeping through to the other side, but I did have a little warping....nothing a stack of books can't fix!  I also added two other embossed hearts to make it look cohesive!
So, that is my card and I will give it to my husband, who is just always so supportive of me and just so good with the kids and helping to get them off to school when he can.  He even made potato salad today because my son said he wanted some...what a great dad! Just wanted to share....lol!  I love making cards when I know who will receive it before I make it!

Rainbows and Leprechauns!

Hi there!  Yes, another blog post today!  I wanted to post this before I get side tracked with the new on line card class that I am taking...lol!  Lots of fun *new to me* techniques to try out!!
This card came together so fast...I had an image in my head and then boom it was done.  I was glad to break out my Cricut and the cutest cartridge ever...Teddy Bear Parade!  The leprechaun bear was cut at 3 inches with all of his layers. I used MFT rainbow die to create the rainbow...I save all of the scraps from the cuts in a baggie and use them for smaller rainbows- that's how I created the rainbow inside the card, with scraps!)
I also used the medium size cloud die from the Lawn Fawn Spring Showers die set and stamped the sentiment on the cloud that I inked a bit with TH broken china distress ink.   I, of course, added clear wink of stella glitter to the rainbow and a few spots on the bear.

I think this card is super cute and I know my kiddos will love it!  I am going to enter this card in a challenge over on Mary's blog....Cardztv - Cardztv Card Challenge #2: Create a Card for St. Patrick's Day.  I love the challenges there...it gets me to use my cricut more often!

CAS hello card

Hello!
There is a great class that I am taking at onlinecardclasses.com called Clean & Simple One Layer Cards 3!  Fabulous techniques taught by fabulous teachers like Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner and Julie Ebersole!  So, today I used a technique called in layed die cutting...so the card is a one layer card.  Now I did use a panel other than the card front and used foam adhesive to attach the panel, but to me that is ok and I still consider it a one layer card!

I started with a 4x51/4 piece of Lawn Fawns new Hello Sunshine paper from the 6x6 pad and then used Lawn Fawn Spring Showers dies for the sun and clouds and then the new hello die as well!   This card was super simple but super fun to make.  I love the overlapped die cutting look with this simple technique!

Hello Sunshine!

Good morning!  I have been trying to post this card for days now and every time I jump on my laptop I lose the internet connection....it is very frustrating.  We found that we need the cable wire replaced coming into the house, so hopefully they will be here tomorrow to fix it.
Anyway, I have been seeing so many blogs that have the pictures of the supplies that they used and it links to a store where they bought it....so I was thinking, well that's not for me, it is probably way too complicated for me (one who is not good with technology).....THEN, I came across a blog and there it was....a simple way to link products and it is her family business.  On Vicky's blog there is a great tutorial on how to use in linkz to create a supply list. It was simple and fun....but we shall see what this post looks like when all is said and done...lol!

Onto the card... this card started as I was throwing away the negative space after die cutting a bunch of 'hello's"....to get the most out of the paper without wasting, I usually rotate or flip flop the die. So I was left with the negative and I thought, oh this looks fun and different and then came the card.
Behind the negative space is a piece of watercolor paper that I used with some TH distress inks to create a watercolor background. I love how vibrant the colors are and they all mixed very well.  So that is how the front of the card came about.....then I just had some fun using new Lawn Fawn dies and the SSS March card kit.  I like the way this card came out and am glad that I didn't throw away the pieces.   The sun and clouds were cut using some extra watercolor pieces of paper that I had made.
So thats it for today....can't wait to see what this post will look like with the links!!  Fingers crossed!

Good morning! Here is a card that I made for the MFT sketch challenge this week!  I kind of flipped it and added a few more buttons...I couldn't resist! Using MFT's coordinating colors and embellishments make it easy to create!

I used the MFT "Stencil on the Diagonal" with white embossing paste on kraft card stock. I had cut the circle out so it wouldn't be embossed and then used white embossing powder for the sentiment. The sentiment is from the MFT "You Make My Day" stamp set. I cut a strip of MFT blue raspberry cardstock in a banner and used the MFT "Little Lowercase Letters" to  die to cut the letters out in white. I added some blue raspberry buttons that I sewed with thread to finish off this simple card!

It was fast and easy and I love the texture that using the paste gives...I also like the white on kraft with a pop of color!
